GSTN has introduced an update to facilitate the registration compliance for buyers of metal scrap through form GST REG-07. This update follows the new GST provisions for metal scrap buyers as outlined in the advisory issued on October 13. Taxpayers in this category are required to select "Others" in Part B of Table 2 under the "Constitution of Business" section. A text box will appear where the taxpayer must enter “Metal Scrap Dealers.” This entry is mandatory for those selecting the "Others" option. Once this is completed, the remaining details in form GST REG-07 should be filled and submitted on the common portal to meet the registration requirements as per Notification No. 25/2024 - Central Tax, dated October 9, 2024.

As per Explanation 2 to Section 139(1) of Income Tax Act, 1961, below classes of taxpayers must file their return on or before 31 October,2024: (a) Corporate-assessee; or (b) Non-corporate assessee whose books of account are required to be audited under Income Tax Act or any other law for the time being in force; or (c)Partner of a firm whose accounts are required to be audited under Income Tax Act or any other law for the time being in force or the spouse of such partner if the provisions of section 5A (Apportionment of Income between spouses governed by the Portuguese Civil Code) applies to such spouse.

On Wednesday, the Union Finance Ministry issued several circulars, providing much-needed relief to various sectors, including the automotive industry, data hosting services, advertising agencies catering to foreign clients, and exporters. One of the key circulars from the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) clarified the GST treatment of demo vehicles used by authorized dealers. These vehicles, despite being capitalized in accounts, are eligible for GST deductions as they help promote the sale of motor vehicles through trial runs and feature demonstrations. The CBIC acknowledged demo vehicles as tools for making further supplies, thus qualifying for GST input credit.

To address a common customer need for bigger and faster SRAM, Microchip Technology has expanded its Serial SRAM product line to include larger densities of up to 4 Mb and increased Serial Peripheral Interface/Serial Quad I/O Interface (SPI/SQI) speed to 143 MHz. The 2 Mb and 4 Mb devices are designed to provide a lower-cost alternative to traditional parallel SRAM products and include optional battery backup switchover circuitry in the SRAM memory to retain data on power loss.

The income tax department on Tuesday allowed trusts and institutions, which filed audit reports for the assessment year 2023-24 in incorrect forms, to file documents in correct forms by March 31. Income of any fund or institution or trust or any university or other educational institution or any hospital is exempt from income tax subject to fulfilment of certain conditions.

Advisory on GSTR-1/IFF: Introduction of New 14A and 15A tables 12/03/2024 It is informed to all taxpayers that as per Notification No. 26/2022 – Central Tax dated 26th December 2022 two new Table 14A and Table 15A have been introduced in GSTR-1 to capture the amendment details of the supplies made through e-commerce operators (ECO) on which e-commerce operators are liable to collect tax under section 52 or liable to pay tax u/s 9(5) of the CGST Act, 2017. These tables have now been made live on the GST common portal and will be available in GSTR-1/IFF from February 2024 tax period onwards. These amendment tables are relevant for those taxpayers who have reported the supplies in Table 14 or Table 15 in earlier tax periods.
